Changes to your cycle after having a baby can include but are not limited to, a heavy flow, a longer duration of your period, and an irregular cycle for the first 6 months to one year.

Most women will return to a similar pattern of menstruation after delivery within a suitable time frame. After birth you may have a longer duration of bleeding but this will generally not last more then 6 weeks. Breast feeding may however prolong your return to menstruation.

If not breast-feeding then menstruation should start in about 12 weeks. Some will start as early as 2 months postpartum. Just as pregnancy is different for every woman so is menstruation. Many women report having more cramps than they had previously and heavier flow. Women who suffered endometreosis or very heavy periods before often report less cramping and lighter periods.

I have heard good and bad things. From my experience, my cramps were much worse and I bled much more for the first 3 to 4 months once I starting menstruating again. After that, it pretty much went back to normal.

Sometimes your body cycle will change after you have had a baby. You might experience heavier periods. You might miss periods, some people go a long time in between periods. If you get on birth control a lot of times it will slow your cycle way down or keep it normal.
