This condition is called as Olecranon Bursitis. Gout can be the reason of this swollen sack. Most of the time we donot notice this sack but at times it gets filled with fluid. It can also become a size of an egg. Draining it and putting a pressure bandage on it can often help clear it up.

The elbow has a sac that sits over it called the bursa. The bursa helps to cushion the elbow from bumps and bruiseing. When swelling is near the elbow it is more than likely bursitis when this sac is inflamed.

You most likely are suffering these symptoms due to a trauma to the elbow or an infection in the elbow.
