Stretch marks are usually handed down from generations so you are suseptible because of the women in your family. If you gain or lose weight quickly or if you go through a growth spurt then this is a reason you will get them. Also when you become pregnant than stretch marks can occur.

Stretch marks are caused by the stretching of the skin. This happens when a person either gains a very large amount of weight through overeating, or gets pregnant.

They come from when you skin is forced to stretch faster than it is meant to grow. This can come from being pregnant, getting fat, or a huge growth spurt. Like anything else if something is forced to over work, your skin can become damaged. Good new is there are treatments for them.

Stretch marks can be caused by rapid weight gain or weight loss. You can reduce them by using vitamin E to fade them gradually. However, it is very difficult to remove stretch marks. Try gaining weight gradually over time versus rapid weight gain or loss because that will cause the stretch marks.
