What is the exact nature of your problem? Is it not playing or is does it sound bad? If it is not playing, make sure it is powered properly. Most of some kind of indicator that it is on. Try different cassettes to make sure it is not the cassette causing the problem.

Well, in my opinion there's no such thing as troubleshooting an audio cassette player. Either they work, or they don't. Often I've resorted to the 'banging on things' method of fixing stuff with my cassette decks, but it pretty much only works once. I still love my tapes though. I wish that there were still quality decks available for sale.

Make sure that the tape isn't too lose by turning the reels manually. If there's a lot of static, you may need to try cleaning the head.
