Puppies can be born with this anomaly. It is congenital and fixed by surgery at the time the puppy is neutered. The abdomin and or intestine cause the protrusion.

An umbilical hernia is caused by the abdominal contents protruding through the abdominal wall at the umbilicus. Consult your veterinarian to determine of there is need to worry.

An umbilical hernia is a condition where stomach contents stick out through the abdominal wall at the area of the umbilicus. Small hernias are generally not a problem. It is recommended to repair a larger hernia due to the risk of intestinal loop strangulation.
