bathroom

Question by  Otto (45)

What can I do myself to fix a plumbing problem in my bathroom if my bathtub will not drain?

For the past two days my bathtub has been draining very slowly, it does eventually go out but it takes forever.

Start by removing the grid drain plate from the tub drain first. Most of the time hair gets caught around this and causes the tub to drain slowly. The next quick fix is with a plunger. Run the water in you tub and begin to plunge the drain.

Hardware stores carry an assortment of chemical agents that you could try. You could remove the drain cover, get a hand snake and try to clear any obstruction.

Remove the drain cap and clear anything you can see. If it looks like there is a blockage you can loosen it up with a regular toilet plunger or a dose of drain unclogging fluid.

you can get a pipe cleaner (rent at home depot) and clean the pipe. however, if the bathtub is old than the pipe is old. and the problem will arise again. but cleaning the pipe with a pipe cleaner will help drain the water faster, until it get clog up again

There are many over the counter cleaners that you can put in the tub and send down the pipe. Try one of them first and see what results you get.
