A strain to the psoas (iliopsoas) muscle can be best treated by rest and ice over the first 48 hours, followed by gentle heat and professional massage to speed overall healing.

Rest them a few days, lay off any sit-ups especially. If there is no pronounced swelling, heat could help, ice and heat alternating if swelling is present. If swelling is severe, or pain does not lessen or gets worse see a doctor. Slowly ease back into normal activity, but don't over do it too quickly, you'll risk re-injury.
