What can I do about a sore jaw?

There are many things you could do. You could take a pain reliever such as ibuprofen. It relieves pain and inflammation, so if there's a little swelling it would help with that as well. You could also use heat--either a heating pad or a hot washcloth. If it persists, you should go to a doctor.

The first thing to do for a sore jaw is stop moving it. Keeping it as still as possible will prevent further pain. The next thing would be to take at least two Motrin, but no more than four, depending on the level of pain.

A common reason for a sore jaw is a condition called TMJ. Wearing a night guard can stop you from clenching your jaw while you sleep and prevent soreness.

1. Take an over the counter pain killer. 2. Get a tooth-grinding protection device, called a bruxism guard, to determine if that is the cause. 3. See the dentist.
