A prolapse rectum in a chincilla is an emergent situation. One must get the chincilla to the vet immediately or death could occur.

Chinchillas with this conditon will need to be looked at by a veterinarian right away as this can cause severe bacterial infetions from the intestine poking out. Before you take him to the clinic, clean the area very well with warm water, not too hot or cold though.

Visit the vet immediately. Don't try to push it inside since the tissue is fragile and can rupture. The vet will try to reduce the swelling and put the tissue back in. A purse string suture will keep it in place. If the tissue is damaged/necrotic, then euthanasia is required.
