Depending on the percentage of blockage, your doctor will most likely keep you on a routine testing schedule and when the blockage gets to a certain point, suggest surgery.

Treatment of the celiac artery is a best left in the care of a Vascular specialist. Search for one in your area. Your doctor can send the specialist your history and and test results you have. Then the specialist would be able to determine what would be best for your situation.

Blockage of the celiac artery can be life threatening if there are little collaterals to make up for the blockage. In such a case, interventional medicine can be employed by either a surgeon or interventional radiologist, who will place a stent into the artery to allow it to remain open.

My Mom has been diagnosed with this; however the pain comes randomly out of the blue and not necessarily after she has eaten as suggested here. Is this the same condition?

If you go to the emergency room they give you high dose of nexium and pain medication. Insist that a radiologist closely examine your xrays to see if a stent in the celiac artery will relieve the distress. Don't wait too long.

You begin with a feeling of indigestion. You belch frequently and it relieves the pressure somewhat. Severe pain feels like you are having a heart attack. You feel the pain after eating, lose your appetite and have a gradual weight loss.
