All of them are made without guano. This is a popular misconception that comes from the fact that they are all made with the chemical guanine, which comes from the same word as guano. No brands of mascara contain bat guano. They do contain guanine, which is commonly confused with the word guano. Guanine is commonly used in the cosmetics industry where it acts as a colorant and as an opacifying agent.

I have read that no mascara is made from bat guano. It was a rumor that was started because one of the color agents, "guanine", appears similar to the word guano, but in fact it's not. I've been told this color agent is actually derived from fish scales.

Companies, by law have to list ingredients on their packages. Bat guano, or feces is not one of them. A company could not use feces in a product to put on people's eyelashes. Feces are too dirty for a company to use. All are bat guano free.

According to Dr. Mark Kestner, no modern mascara contains bat guano. The idea that manufacturers use bat guano to create shimmer or a pearly look is urban legend. Think about it. There isn't any way to make manure sanitary, especially for use around the eyes. No makeup company is going to risk a law suit for a little shine.

The companys Boots, from England, does not have bat guano in it. Specifically their Botanics line is made from mainly natural ingredients. Their No7 line is hypoallergenic and scent free.

Organic mascara is the best choice because it does not contain that. There are two brands that I know of that are great. One is Miessence organic mascara. The other is by Honeybee Gardens and is called truly natural mascara. I use this one and really enjoy it.

It's hard to find mascara that doesn't have bat guano in them. It doesn't matter if they have this ingredient. The mascara works either way and is better with bat guano.
