An employer has the right to require employees (exempt and non-exempt) to use a time clock to document hours worked. The employer can make specific policies as to the calculations.

It varies depending on the union and the type of trade work that you are in. Typically the employee manual will highlight all of the rules and regulations around clocking in and out for work. In most instances you are allowed a 3 minute grace period before shifts.
