Symptoms of measles include coughing, fever (which can reach 105 degrees), skin rash, inflamed eyelids, sensitivity to lighting and a runny nose. In addition, Koplik's Spots may appear. These symptoms typically take place 10-12 days after exposure to the measles virus. Check with a doctor to ensure proper diagnosis since many of the symptoms can be attributed to common cold.

Some symptoms are common of other illnesses, such as fever, cough, and runny nose. If you think it's measles, look for large rashes and small white spots inside the cheek.

The most characteristic feature of measles is a spotted rash all over the body. But, other symptoms like fever, weakness, red eyes and symptoms characteristic of the common cold often precede the onset of the rash. The rash starts at the top of the body and spreads down. A type of rash can also be present in the mouth.

About 10days after infection you might find the child has cold/flu like symptoms, light sensitivity and fever. Fever will ease off after a few days but come back when the rash appears which is usually about 4days after initial symptoms. Other symptoms tiredness, irritability, aches/pains, little grey/white spots in the mouth and eventually a red/brown rash which spreads everywhere.
