The main symptoms of dysentery are abdominal pain with frequent diarrhea, sometimes containing mucus and blood. Vomiting can also be present and sometimes there is blood in the vomit. Dysentery usually requires medical attention because sometimes in children, elderly people, and those with compromised immune systems, the accompanying dehydration can prove fatal.
