Blood clots in the lungs can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, rapid heart rate and possibly coughing up blood. Most symptoms develop very suddenly.
The most common symptoms are sudden, sharp chest pain that worsens with deep breathing, and shortness of breath. Sometimes the patient will also cough up blood.
This may cause shortness of breath, anxiety, restlessness and the person may appear to be having an anxiety attack. In some cases, symptoms may be fainting, convulsions or light headedness.
