Disinterest in work or family life, exhibiting strong or violent anger, inability to pursue a normal life, normal activities or normal relationships, increasing dependence on alcohol or drug and having flashbacks to a prior traumatic events.

The first symptoms of a nervous breakdown may be exhaustion, weakness, uncontrollable crying, confusion and disorientation. Over time there may be significant weight loss or weight gain, difficulty sleeping, and even temporary paralysis.
