At 34 weeks, the baby has a good chance of surviving if born at this point. The earlier the delivery, the greater the risk of cerebral palsy, difficulty breathing from immature lungs, and an inability to retain body heat. Premature babies are also at a greater risk of getting an infection.

At 34 weeks your babies lungs are developed however you may still be required to take steroid shots. In addition your baby will more than likely spend some time in the NICU and not come home with you. It is best to make it as far as you can.

One of the major risks of early labor is that the major organs of the baby may not be fully developed. This is especially true for the heart and lungs. However, if delivery and birth are safe and successful chances of having a healthy child are very high.

There is a low possibility of low birth weight, but at this point the baby is only 2 weeks early, and can survive outside the womb.
