Japanese business people very rarely say no , it wil be hard to know if they are truly interested. They will take extensive notes so that they can repeat items back to you verbatim. In addition they use the whiteboard alot and will want hard copies of all the paperwork you have.

Japanese businessmen are polite and fairly conservative. You should dress formally and greet them with respect. Do bow your head slightly, especially if they bow in return. If they give you a namecard, accept it with both hands and do not write on it.

During the peak of interest in Japanese business practices, several books were popular. Check out Inside the Kaisha: Demystifying Japanese Business Behavior by Noboru Yoshimura, and Japanese Business Etiquette: A Practical Guide to Success With the Japanese by Diana Rowland. Also, Understanding Japanese Management Practices by Parissa Haghirian was published in August 2010.

Business practices mirror the culture of the people. Masculinity is important. Woman defer to men and do not speak first. People do not see themselves as individuals but as an integral part of a larger group (Company). And it is important to note that the Japanese are not risk takers. They like to see proven positive results before making decisions.
