The main hazard is germs. Wear latex gloves or wash your hands frequently. Watch for foreign objects in large containers of coins i. e. pins, screws, nails. When counting bills, do not lick your fingers to moisten them. Gloves will eliminate the risk of paper cuts from bills and coin wrappers.

Counting money may be hazardous if you don't wash your hands afterwards. Money of all kinds is very dirty, having come in contact with any number of people whose hygiene might be in question. If you are counting new bills, it is also possible to suffer a paper cut.
