Depending on your bank and the company you are doing the direct deposit. However, the main rules are that the company would normally need a check or a checking account number for your direct deposit. There is also a form that you may have to sign to authorize the company to complete the direct deposit.

You will first have to fill-out a form either through your banc or through your employer. It will require bank and account information as well as your signature for consent. The direct deposit should be posted in such a manner that the funds are available to you on or before the due date.

You'll need the routing number of whatever institution you are planning to have funds direct deposited to. Other than that, rules vary per financial institution.
