Depends on the spread its used in as well as the position. Hanged man is normally a card saying you can't move forward or back. It can also mean sacrifice for someone in your life. Different suits mean different things as well. Pentacles= Money, Wands= Career, Swords= Relationships and problems, and Cups= Emotional and mental things.

The hanged man is usually interpreted as suggesting non action - not INACTION, but choosing not to take action, rather than choosing to take action simply for the sake of taking action; in other words, not making a choice for no reason other than having made a choice. It is also frequently associated with patience and contemplation
