Spain has 50 provices on the Iberian peninsula plus some territory in Northern Africa. They are categorized into 6 areas: Central, Southern, Northeastern, Northern, Northwestern, and the African Possessions.

The four best known regions of Spain are: First, central Madrid, the busy national capital. Second, Andalusia in the south, once controlled by the Arab moors and known as an arts center. Third, Catalonia on the Mediterranean; known for the 1992 summer Olympics in Barcelona. Fourth the Basque country in the north, home to the distinct and unique Basque people.
