What are the dangers of wearing contacts to bed?

Answer by  Eloisa (32)

Wearing contacts to bed, even the extended wear ones, may cause excessive dryness of the eyes. Infection is also frequent when lenses are not removed and cleaned within reasonable intervals.

While you sleep your eyes may become dried out and if your contacts are still in place they may stick to your eyes. When you then try to remove the lenses, it may damage the section of the cornea that it becomes stuck to and may require immediate medical intervention.

One's eyes can easily dry out if not treated throughout the night with eye drops when contacts are worn.
