They are just graphical true type fonts that is scalable fonts which rapresents symbols instead of letters. They are used to make it simple to add pretty graphics to your documents. To create them just choose the Wendings/Webdings true type fonts from the font combobox and start typing! there is a different symbol for each key of your keyboard.
