For a homeowner i would recommend looking into what products bissell has to offer, very reliable and affordable. For someone who was gonna be shampooing carpets in a commercial matter i would suggest Eureka SC6080A Commercial Carpet Extractor, it is a very reliable and user friendly machine. The cost is a bit higher then others but would be withe it.

I personally use Bissel vaccum steamer and Bissel with lavender carpet shampoo to clean all my carpet. It has work well so far. It cleans the carpet well and it doesn't have the stinky smell of chemical. Another good point is the good smell of lavender in your carpet.
