What are the best places to view the Hollywood sign?

I would have to say from Hollywood. It would be rather difficult to see it from New York unless you had a high powered telescope.

Go to the Hollywood and Highland mall. Walk all the way back to CPK. You'll have a great view of the sign for photos. I kind of prefer the view from the top-level walkway, past the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency. You will definitely get great photo oppurtunities there

There are many great places to view the Hollywood sign but the best being Beachwood Canyon. This street is located not far off the 101 Freeway and gives you a perfect view of the sign.
