What are the benefits of using stem cells?

I have heard so much negative information on stem cell use, can you help to clarify the benefits of using them in medicine and in research.

Stem cells in adult humans can repair the body, replenish specialized cells, and maintain the normal regenerative cycle of the blood, skin, or intestinal tissues. Its potential is limitless as more researchers claim its ability to treat brain damage, cancers, spinal cord injuries, rare genetic disorders, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, etc.

Stem cells can be used to help build new tissue and repair organs to those who have various diseases. The study of stem cells makes advancements in oncology and pediatrics.

Stem cells can potentially be changed into or trained to become any other cell as they have not been committed to any cell type yet. Because of this they can be transformed to for example secrete insulin and more importantly result in a cure for diabetes and other diseases.

There are two kinds of stem cells: embryonic and adult. Embryonic stem cells have thus far been uncontrolled in clinical trials, causing cancer. Stem cells created from adult cells and chemically switched back to a stem cell state have been used for skin grafts, nerve regeneration, and Parkinsons' trials successfully.
