What are the benefits of buying a home on a slab as opposed to a basement?

I am from the midwest where 90% of the homes are built on a basement, I moving to the south and would like to know why I should buy a slab home.

In states like Florida slabs are used because the water table is so near the surface that keeping water out of a basement is costly.

purchasing a slab home should be relatively cheaper, considering how much money goes into making a basement. A slab home is less likely to have flooding issues during heavy rains, and if done correctly, will be less likely to sink in the future. A basement however is generally considered higher quality, and crawl space mediocre, and a slab is worst.

Depending on the water table of the area, slabs may be the only way to go. Basements are great for extra space, but the south has more slab homes.

Depending on where exactly where you are moving to you would want to look at the weather and flood plain areas. If tornados are common, stick with the basement. If you are in an area that is more common for flooding, the slab would be better.
