ATA is the most common form of interface connection used by hard disk or optical drives. It is low cost, and found on many brands and models. however the speed of transfer is not the fastest, and cannot be used in high end or enterprise products

There are two types of ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment) currently in use. PATA and SATA, PATA uses older ribbon cables. SATA has much higher throughput and smaller connection size.
