Adding ice to your minnow bucket will help keep your bait alive for much longer. Also try to stir the water every now and then in order to make bubbles which adds oxygen to the water.

The best way to do it is to fish from a boat so you can go around to various coves and natural cover. Put the hook through the tail area so they wiggle around a bunch. The real draw to them is the movement, so keep them alive after the cast.
