What are some suggestions for backyard fountains?

Should they go right in the middle?

If you want the fountain to be the focus of your back yard then you should put it in the middle. If you want an area that you can utilize for other activities, I'd recommended putting the fountain off to the side with some plants or in a corner.

A center fountain, if done so it's visible from all angles, can be attractive. However, it's typically better flow if you off set it into one of the back corners, generally the left is more appealing. This way you can put a sand garden or something soothing beside it.

I think all backyard fountains should be made from granite and depict magnificent dragons fighting dolphins in the far right corner.

If you are looking for a large fountain that can be the center of attention in your yard, then put it in the middle. However, if you also have a patio with chairs, a garden, or anything else in your yard that you would like people to notice, then you might want to offset the fountain to the side.
