Anton Chekhov wrote many short stories over his life time. Some of my favorites include: On the Road, The Marshal's Widow, The Lion in the Sun, The Lottery Ticket, A Happy Man and the Lady With the Toy Dog. He also did do some one-act plays, i recommend checking out The Proposal.
