Short stories and poetry are the two most difficult genres to commercially publish. Your best bet is to offer individual stories to online and print publications, or publish the collection on your own. Check out the Writers Market at the library reference desk for a list of markets.

The main point is to ensure that the type of story matches the target publication. Research magazines and websites which publish similar stories, identify the person who commissions new work (usually some kind of editor) send samples of your work to that named person. Make sure the text you send is very neat and correct in every respect.

The easiest way to do so? Just ask. Being published is easier now in the digital age than it ever was. Pick up some magazines ("Writer's Digest," "Poets & Writers") on or offline, and flip to the "calls for submissions" section. Then, write away and send submissions--right away! Best of luck.

There's a book published every year called The Writer's Market, which has an online presence as well (fee-based). There are many online sites that publish short stories too, for free.

I would check for publishers on line that are looking for short stories and find out how to submit your stories for them to publish

Depending on the stories, there are several magazines that buy short stories. You just have to search for the right markets.
