Get a roll of mentos and a 2-liter soda. Drop all the mentos into the full soda bottle. It will create quite a fountain. Search for it online.

The safest explosion for kids is the standby of vinegar and baking soda. If you put those two ingredients in a small container, such as a camera film container, the reaction will blow off the top.

Kids love the baking soda, vinegar volcano. You make a clay volcano with baking soda in the middle and when you pour in vinegar it fizzes and erupts. You could also do the famous mentos/diet coke trick, just add about four mentos to a bottle of diet coke.

Safe explosions is an oxymoron. If you are doing it, try a little bit of methane and oxygen in a large water container, but still practice safety, having the kids far away. A huge blue flame appears with a whooshing sound, and it's pretty safe. That's as close as impressive and safe are coming together.

Those little paper things that you throw and they go POP are technically an explosion and as safe as you can get with kids ...also slightly (very slightly) more risky depending on age is old fashoned air popped popcorn.

The best thing to do is the old classic baking soda, viniger explosion. If you place it in a small container, it may blow the cap off! Another great one is putting 2-3 mentos in a 2 litre bottle of coke, shake it up, and throw! Bam!

Am looking at this at the moment myself and I would say that Vinegar & Baking Soda works best inside and mentos & Coke outside. Also remember there were these Smoke grenades; meant to be safe. google it Never tried myself so not sure how safe.

Add hot water and vinagar together in a plastic baggy and then get a paper towel and put baking soda in and hold that and then seal up the bag and let loose the paper towel and bam

Take a small bottle (plastic) and fill 1/4 full with vinegar and take a large balloon and fill with baking soda. Place balloon on bottle and dump the baking soda into the bottle. With enough baking soda and vinegar the balloon will blow up and 'pop' off of the bottle.

Liquid nitrogen is a safe and good thing too do with kids. citric acid is also very good and safe. you can probably get then at your local supermarket. just mix them together and Boom! a small safe explosion!!!

Should be performed outside, but mentos and coke make interesting splashes. Also, they can build thier own rockets using film canisters or something similarly shaped, vinegar, and alka seltzers. This should be done outside or on a tarp as there is minor liquid spillage.
