What are some reasons a dog foams at the mouth?

If a dog foams at the mouth, and it is a large amount there may be cause for concern. Do you know for sure that this dog has not been infected by rabies? THat of course, is one of the symptoms of rabies. It could also be another virus, or perhaps the dog has eaten something poisonous.

A dog tha does not have rabies could foam at the mouth because it feels hot and needs water or because it is nervous around new people or other dogs or strange places.
