Hanuka and chanukkah are Jewish holidays where the dreidel is played with by children. The dreidel has a Hebrew letter on each side of the spinning top. I am not an expert on Jewish tradition. All I know is that it is a spinning top played with by kids during a Jewish celebration.

The dreidel has four letters, they are Nun, Gimel, Hei, and Shin. Put together they form the sentence Nes Gadol Hayah Sham ("a great miracle happened there").

Each side of a dreidel contains a Hebrew letter. In Israel, the letters are "nun," "gimmel," "hey," and "pey." The letters stand for "Nais gadol hayah po," meaning, "A great miracle happened here." Outside Israel, the "pey" is replaced with the letter "shin" and the letters stand for "Nais gadol hayah sham," meaning, "A great miracle happened there."

The sides show four hebrew letters: nun, gimel,hei and shin.Together, these letters represent the phrase: A great miracle happened here.The miracle is that the Maccebes found enough oil in the jewish temple to burn for one day, but the oil burned for eight days. Thus the menorrah to represent this.

The symbols on the dreidel are Hebrew letters. They are Nun, Gimmel, Hey, and Shin. In Israel, the symbol Shin is replaced by the symbol Peh.
