My favorite company for a moderately priced dry wine is Beringer. They carry a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chardonnay for $15 and $20 respectively. The company has been making wine for 134 years and make a huge array of specialty wines so even their low-priced ones are delicious.

Garnacha-based wines from Spain and Malbecs from Argentina for reds and Chenin Blancs from South Africa and Vinho Verde from Portugal are also notable for moderately priced dry wines.

Generally speaking, Australian wines are good for the price, either whites or reds. Whites from the Loire valley are another option for something dry and reasonably priced.

The best strategy is to focus on wines from regions with good price to value ratios. This ensures that the winery is competitive and will allow you to explore many wines from that region. Some examples include malbec wines from Mendoza in Argentina, Garnacha wines from Calatayud and Campo de Borja in Spain and Vinho Verde from Portugal.
