Some of the first symptoms of liver failure include nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and fatigue. The patient may also have tenderness in the upper right abdomen, bruise easily, become jaundiced and experience abdominal swelling. As failure progresses, disorientation and extreme sleepiness may develop and possible coma may result.

The reason the body reacts this way is due to the large amount of toxins that the liver can not filter out. A lot of how a persons body will react also depends on their underlying conditions.
