What are some good kitchen backsplash ideas?

I tiled my backsplash in small glass tiles in a marbled beige/cream color combo. These tiles come in one-foot squares on a canvas backing. In two spots on each sheet of tiles, I cut out four tiles, leaving a square gap. When applying the tiles to the wall, I put a larger, square blue tile in the gap diamond-wise.

Some good ideas for a back splash would be to have something of a dark or brown color so dirt or grime doesn't show up as easily, it also helps to consider a second plastic protector of some sort so that grime removal isn't difficult to do or attempt in your sink.
