I would find something similar to what you'd wear to a semi formal dance. Stay true to your personal style, don't worry about anyone else.

To not look slutty than stick with something that is closer to the knee than furthur away. Think about the fact that you want to be comfortable because it will be a long night as well with not a lot of sitting. So, simplicity, something you ca wear after you eat and not look bloated, and no bra lines!

It depends on how formal your event is going to be, but if you go to a specialty store like David's Bridal they will have someone help you.
