Questions based on observation can be good conversation openers. Approach a person you are interested in talking to and ask them a question about their attire or visible possessions.

Make conversation based on your surroundings. Ask them if they are ever nervous or uncomfortable at parties and if they are enjoying themselves. Try asking them what their most memorable moment at a party was, or if they've ever witnessed someone embarrassing themselves at a party.
