The Apostle Paul defines love and its importance in 1 Corinthians 13. The Greeks had a number of words for love and in this passage, he is referring to "agape." Agape-type love is sacrificial in nature--it is focused on doing what is good for the other person instead of being selfish. The passage defines this type of love thoroughly.
