Hot roots happen with you color the entire head when you have regrowth. Since the color at the root is not the same as the rest of the hair when you start, it will not be the same after you color it. You must use a different shade in that area so they'll match when the process is complete.

Hot roots refers to reddish/gold bands left at the newgrowth area after attempting to lighten the hair overall. When you see an individual who has lightened or bleached their hair and the scalp area has an orange cast to it, proper steps were not taken in choosing the correct lightening agent.

Hot roots are when you color your hair, and the scalp/root area becomes a brighter color that the rest of the hair, because the heat of the scalp on the first 1/4 inch of the strands processes at a warmer temperature than the rest of the hair.

This is the condition brought by artificial coloring of hair, wherein the color of portion of hair close to scalp is a bit light / smoked as compared to the portion at the end.
