We just discovered insects that fell from our ceiling that hop (or pop) and sound like pop corn. What could they be?

These insect may be cricket. Some times, some insect can make popping sound using there legs or wings. These insect are seasonal and they may be calling their mates. They will go in 1 or 2 week so do not try to eliminate them try to find the cause, OK.

Those insects could very well be crickets, they have legs but they sound like popcorn. It could also be a specific kind of beetle that does not have legs but it makes a popping sound.
