Replace the plugs, plug wires, and service the distributor. You might also need a new coil. Check to see that all wires and such are connected.

Check the plugs of course, then the plug wires, then move back to the ignition. There could be something with touching of a wire to body. Metal to metal contact is never good. Make sure to check the spark plug slot for oil. And the plugs for corrosion, You could have water in the engine. Dont forget about your battery!

If the plugs you are speaking of have no spark then it could be a problem with the alternator or perhaps the timing. Often the fly wheel will have to be adjusted.

You need to check the timing or the alternator itself. First, check the plugs and the plug wires. If those look good then I would check the timing and also test the alternator to make sure that it is good.

Yank that thing out and put in a modern engine, unless of course it's all original & you're trying to restore it. The obvious answer is to check your breaker points & see if they are burned. This is a common problem in old engines like this. You may be able to get by with filing them down a little.

If the engine has no spark, then probably are spark plugs poor. Buy a new spark plugs and change them with old spark plugs. You can change it yourself, it's not hard. If you don't know how to do it then drive a car to the mechanic.

Before attempt any work with the electrical, disconnect the negative battery cables. Test 4 components that work with the starting system. Distributor, Coil, Spark Plug Wires, And the Plugs themselves. If you also have a Computer On Board ( depending on year ) Have the computer checked. One of these should locate your problem.

Check your ignition system. Make sure the gaps in the distributor is correct and that all your connection are correct and tight.
