My doctor gave me a sample box of birth control pills. The expire date is 03 12 of 4014. Are they expired?

You may want to double-check to make sure that it's actually an expiration date and not a serial number you're looking at. Assuming you were given the box recently (within the last 30 days), your best best would be to contact your physician and have him/her double-check to ensure that the pills have not expired.

The expiry date is March 2012. The 4014 is a lot number. Most sample stock is well monitored by the representatives who visit the offices, so you can expect there would not be expired pills in the office. The odd date is actually a tracking number or lot number. Don't worry about it.

Sounds as if there was a "typo" and the experiation date probably is for 2014.
