Isn't there a standardized fee that towing companies can charge so that they can't gouge people?

Usually in one given area there are multiple companies so they have to keep their prices reasonable so people do not go somewhere else with their business. Competition is the best regulator of prices.

As much as the Obama administration would love to control all business, we have a free enterprise system in the U.S. Businesses can charge what they like. Consumers are free to pay or not pay. There is no "standardized fee" rules for towing company or any other business.

Supply and demand is a business venture. Some cities maintain a regulation over certain businesses and costs but most are free to charge what the market will bear. Towing is no different than other businesses.
