There are doctors specialized in ophthalmology, but I don't think you'll find one who does exclusively that. Try in a big veterinary clinic, where it's more likely to find specialists.

You usually don't need a specialist to diagnose your cat's eyes needs. Most vets are very proficient at this, and will refer you to a vet who has greater knowledge if the need presents. Cat's eye needs are usually pretty straightforward and have to do with nutritional balance. Consult your vet- eye problems are symptomatic of a deeper issue.

Definitely! I looked up feline ophthamology and many different sites came up. A famous one is Dr. Mary Belle Glaze, who wrote an entire book on the subject called "The Atlas of Feline Ophthamology."

Most vets are very well trained for feline eye conditions, diseases. They will assess by light and magnifying to evaluate initial presentation. Some vets are more knowledgeable thru practice with specific eye conditions.

Yes. Just like human ophthalmologists can specialize in age ranges, veterinary ophthalmologists can specialize in animals. Doctors who work with small pets are the easiest to find.

Veterinarians can pursue advanced training to become board certified veterinary ophthalmologists, though they generally treat more than a single species.

Vets can specialize in many different specific fields of cat health, so you may be able to find a vet who specializes in ophthalmology. Ask local vets about it and you can also ask vet schools.
