Is there a relationship between hunting and the 2nd amendment?

I have heard it argued both ways.

The Second Amendment provides that citizens have a right to own guns. Hunting is governed by state authorities, not the U. S. Constitution. If you want to hunt with a gun, the Second Amendment says that you are allowed (within legal boundaries) to own that gun.

I'm not sure about the hunting aspect, but the 2nd amendment was put into place to help landowners with protection of their land, family and livestock. The right to bare arms was something the founder's believed was essential in maintaining a democratic society, free from the tyranny of Great Britain.

The second amendment does not specifically address hunting, however the Supreme Court has ruled that the right to bear arms is an individual right which can not be taken away. That would include hunting. In fact, many laws which prohibit high-powered assault rifles are not even effective because they don't affect hunting rifles which are often equally powerful.

Since the 2nd Amendment is the right to bear arms most hunters are passionate about preserving it while others argue there are too many guns in society.

Half a dozen Supreme Court decisions affirm that the Second Amendment is an individual right. The Constitution protects the right of hunters to own and keep sporting guns for hunting game. American's have the right to protect their homes and to use deadly force when confronted by an intruder in their home who is a threat to their safety.

The Second Amendment was written to ensure that all citizens who wanted to be armed for self protection could have a weapons, ensuring enough people to form militias.

The Second Amendment is part of the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution. It protects the rights of citizens to keep and bear firearms. If one wishes to hunt with a firearm, the existence of the Second Amendment affords that individual the right to purchase and own a gun within the perimeters of the laws in his/her jurisdiction.

There is no relationship. The Second Amendment preserved the right of American citizens to maintain arms for self-preservation. The Supreme Court has arguably brought hunting within the penumbra of the Amendment as a "traditionally lawful purpose" for owning a gun, but that is judicial interpretation, not the Amendment itself.

The 2nd amendment guarantees Americans the right to bear arms but this can be interpreted in many different ways. There's certainly a relationship as the 2nd amendment deals with a citizen's right to own a gun. Whether the intention was for hunting or insurrection is up to those who wish to interpret it a certain way.
