Yes, it is deductible. You will need to be able to itemize in order to get the benefit of this deduction. It is deductible as charitable mileage on schedule A.

If you volunteer your services for a recognized US charity, and you pay travel expenses in order to do your volunteer service, your travel expenses may be deducted on your tax return as a charitable contribution. If you drive your vehicle you may deduct actual expenses or 14 cents per mile.

If the trip is for charity, your can deduct mileage at the charitable rate. You get 14 cents per mile. If the trip is for general religion (you went to some religious service in another state), it's not chartity and non-deductable.

No, mileage for a mission trip is not deductible, as you are doing something that is a personal and religious choice and not something that contributes to the economy, thus there is no reason why the government should or will give you money for it.
